If possible, include one tempo/speed day, one hill day, and one long run per week. Be Prepared to Conquer the Race. To do well in an obstacle course race, you’ll want to train for at least 3-6 months ahead of time (depending on the distance of the course). Perform these strength workouts in between your running days for best results.
Burpees. I did 30 burpees twice a day, five days a week for several months. At first I had to take tiny breaks after doing 5 or 10 burpees until I finished the set of 30. Then after a while my body toughened up. While this helped a lot (I did about 120 burpees during the race itself), I think that next time I will do even more on a daily basis.
Cool. Right now, all you can do is get some good long runs in, with body weight exercises mixed in. Don't concentrate on distance. Concentrate I on running for an amount of time. Think, 60 minutes at about 70% heart rate. Every five minutes, stop and do five burpees and 20 lunges, then straight back to running.
