Timing chain. My 2009 2 litre petrol Cab which I've had for 10 months has been driving perfectly until last Friday. I parked the car and came back to it 45 mins later and it failed to start. The RAC towed me to a local garage and in the opinion of the RAC engineer after inspection he thought the problem was linked to the timing chain.

A4 (B8 Platform) Discussion - Timing Chain & Tensioner recommended replacement mileage - I have a 2012 B8 S4. What is the recommended mileage to replace the timing chain and what parts and cost are included?
I have heard it is expensive also, since they have to pull the motor and transmission to replace. Cheers, Chuck. Yes, the motor and tranny do have to come out. On our cars the timing chain is at the back of the engine so therefore to get to it everything has to come out. And yes, timing chains should not got out at 75 or even 150.
The average cost for an Audi A4 Camshaft Replacement is between $1,877 and $2,106. Labor costs are estimated between $876 and $1,105 while parts are typically priced around $1,002. This range does not include taxes and fees, and does not factor in your unique location. Related repairs may also be needed. For a more accurate estimate based on
A4 (B8 Platform) Discussion - Timing chain service/replacement - I am the second owner of 2008 a4 B8 1.8L TFSI CABB engine with 99419 miles on the clock, and from the below sticker I can confirm that the previous owner have't changed the timing chain!
S6, A6 4.2 and the A8 are the same 4.2 block with the timing belt in the front. The newer gen 4.2 blocks use a timing chain in the rear of the block. Thus the need to remove motor to change. I'm thing that the interval for timing chain changes is well over 100k?
I smell a dishonest repair shop. Up through 2006 it's a timing belt. Also, they know (or should know) that the timing chain 40v non FSI V8 used in the 2004 and up S4 and A6 had chain guide cracking problems, but the timing chain 32v FSI V8 in the 2007 and up A8 is a newer design that doesn't have the issue.
