What's good is turn off the auto recruit but leave the wage unlimited so that it doesn't throw out good troops when it goes over the limit, because it will, because the troops can level up passively. Also don't ask me how but things get in you garrison somehow sometimes. Anyway, just stop by and throw out anything you don't want and keep a tidy

You gain xp by recruiting (just throw them out once you buy them) and i never tried starting an army. It's really slow for me. #2. rtNvm.
